Artist's Comments
I have to wonder why I drew this, considering FLCL reflects almost every aspect of anime that I hate- Cutesy poo, disturbing underlying sexual themes, awkward comedy, and pure reluctance of all logical faculty. Yet, it is one of the best series I've seen in some time and I don't know why.
About the art: this is probably not the best piece of fanwork because of its calmness, and if you've seen the show it's anything but calm. Also, I believe that an interpretation of someone else's character should be done in your own style rather than trying to emulate the original art, and this becomes very apparent when I draw anime characters. The way I draw faces is not in the style of anime, so it gives my anime fanart a weird look of American...ness. I'd have to say the hardest part was the guitar. Haruko specifically plays a left-handed Rickenbacker 4001, and finding reference for that was a bitch. |
